====== DH82 Tiger Moth ====== The Tiger Moth is a biplane which was designed in the 1930’s by Geoffrey de Havilland. It is used by the RAF as a training aircraft and is powered by the de Havilland Gipsy Major I engine. The aircraft is quite easy to fly and very forgiving, however it only has ailerons on the bottom wing so its roll rate is not quite as quick as other biplane aircraft. The game includes two other 'What if?' models of the Tiger Moth, the DH82A-1 and A-2. The A-1 is an imaginary variant which assumes the aircraft was armed with a Vickers K machine gun... the A-2 is based on a historical Czech armed version. These basically operate the same way as the unarmed type, but have machine gun armaments. They are slightly faster and climb slightly better due to a higher horsepower engine. * Max recommended RPM 2350 * 5 Min Rating 2350 RPM * 30min Rating 2100 RPM * Min Oil Press 35 Lb sq in * Normal oil Pressure 42lb sq in Maximum Speed is 107 mph at sea level Stall speed is approximately 45 mph Optimum Climb is at 60 mph --- Process to start Tiger Moth: - Open fuel cock - Switch on the Magnetos - Mixture to 100% (leave it where it is when you spawn in) - Throttle to 10% - Chocks In - Hit 'I' button to start engine - Leave engine idling at your throttle setting for at least 1 minute. - After 1 minute... push the throttle forward firmly and quickly to 100%. The engine will likely stumble, then catch and rpms should rise to approx. 1600. Leave the engine revving at this rpm for another 20 secs to 1 minute. - Reduce throttle back to 10%. - Chocks Out - Add throttle and taxi, holding stick back... remembering you need to use a lot of rudder for direction changes and that the aircraft needs to be moving for the rudder to be effective.... so you will need to start taxing before you can turn. Use short bursts of throttle... between 10% and 50% to help steer... don't get taxing too fast or you will lose control. There are no brakes. - Taxi to the runway, straighten out... and start takeoff. - When taking off be careful not to add full throttle right away... gradually add throttle... and in fact it is often best to not exceed 80% throttle when taking off to avoid ground loops. - When landing, reduce speed to 55-60 mph prior to touching down. There are no brakes.
