Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-1

Engine

DB 601 A-1 with Alten (“old”) Supercharger, Full Throttle Height = 4000 m @ 1.30 ata/2400 rpm

on ground
RPM[U/min] pressure[ata]
Emergency power = 1' 2500 1,40
Short power = 5' 2400 1,30
Climb power = 30' 2300 1,23
Continuous power = d 2200 1,15

Start

  • Fuel Cock On
  • Prop pitch Full fine 12:00
  • Prop Pitch Manual Variable Pitch
  • Start

Warm up

  • Min Oil Temp 40C
  • Min Coolant temp 40C

Take off

  • 1.30 ata 2400 rpm
  • WEP 1.40 ata 2400 rpm (1 Min Clockwork timer)

Climb

  • 1.23 ata/2300 rpm
  • Climb at 250Kmh to 6000m then 240Kmh to 8000m then 220-200Kmh to ceiling
  • 5Min Rating 1.30 ata/2400 rpm

Landing

  • Prop Full Fine 12:00

Rad Usage

  • Use Oil and Coolant Rads as required to control Coolant and Oil Temp.
  • Use 3/4 Coolant Radiator and 3/4 Oil Cooler for Climb settings.
  • Half open is generally sufficient for most level speed operations except at low IAS and high boost/rpm.
  • At high speed 35% open Radiator and Oil cooler is sufficient for brief periods.
  • Slow speed provides the worst cooling. Sustained slow speed high power manoeuvring should start with 3/4 Radiator and Oil cooler, opening to full open Radiator and cooler if temperatures rise.

LIMITATIONS

  • Max IAS 750Kmh
  • Max Flap Speed 250Kmh
  • Max Coolant Temp 100C
  • Max Oil Temp 105C
